Sam Worthington was born Samuel Henry J. Worthington on August 2, 1976 in Godalming, Surrey, England. When he was six months old, the family moved to Australia and resided there, where Sam began his career in acting. First of all gaining recognition for his portrayal of Arthur Wellesley in the Belvoir Street Theatre production of "Judas Kiss", he subsequently landed parts in various Australian TV series, such as "Water Rats" (1996) and "JAG" (1995).

After that Sam invaded the big screen, making his debut in the highly acclaimed Australian movie "Bootmen" (2000). Minor roles followed in several other local flicks. In fact, it was his starring role as Joe in the 2004 movie "Somersault" that became his big break, winning him the AFI award for Best Male Actor. The independent film itself made a history by winning a total of 13 film categories at the AFI Awards.

Aiming for international recognition, Sam had a small role in the 2005 Hollywood war flick "The Great Raid", which shooting took place in Australia. Lost the role of James Bond in "Casino Royale" (2006) to Daniel Craig, he was signed to star in 2009 sci-fi action film "Terminator Salvation", which saw him starring as cyborg Marcus Wright.

However, he became internationally famous after starring as Jake Sully in James Cameron-directed science-fiction film "Avatar". Becoming a household name afterwards, he was billed to star in such high-profile films as, "Clash of the Titans" (2010), "Wrath of the Titans" (2012), and "Avatar 2" (2016).

In October 2013, Sam confirmed he's been dating fellow Aussie actress Lara Bingle. He previously dated actress Maeve Dermody for 3 years before breaking up in 2008, after which he romanced Natalie Mark until 2011.
