Late-night show hosts couldn't help poking fun at Melania Trump, who was accused of plagiarizing Michelle Obama's speech from the 2008 Democratic convention, on the first night of the Republican National Convention on Monday, July 18. Addressing the blunder on his show on Tuesday night, Jimmy Kimmel pointed out how similar their speeches by playing a video that put the First Lady's and Mrs. Trump's speeches side by side.

Kimmel noted that none of the Republicans thought there's something unusual about how similar Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Trump's speeches were. "It's a great point. She didn't plagiarize the speech, she covered it," he enthused. "It was a cover version of Michelle Obama's speech. It doesn't matter who did it first. It's who did it best."

Over at CBS, Stephen Colbert invited a fake Melania Trump, played by Tony Award-winning actress Laura Benanti, to his "Late Show" to explain how she didn't plagiarize her speech the night before. She ended up using famous lines from Dr. Seuss, Charles Dickens, "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and even a McDonald's commercial.

"The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" host then took to Twitter to praise Benanti's impression of Mrs. Trump. "Shout out to the brilliant @LauraBenanti for killing that bit," he wrote.

Jimmy Fallon, meanwhile, opened his "Tonight Show" monologue by saying, "Before we start, I want to say that if any of these jokes sound old, it's because Michelle Obama used them in 2008."
