AceShowbiz - Prince was such an influential being that tributes from fellow celebrities and important people were flowing endlessly. The "Purple Rain" singer died at the age of 57 after he was found unresponsive in the elevator of his Paisley Park Studios apartment in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
"Today the world lost a creative icon. Michelle and I join millions of fans from around the world in mourning the sudden death of Prince," Obama wrote in a touching tribute released on Thursday, April 21. "Few artists have influenced the sound and trajectory of popular music more distinctly, or touched quite so many people with their talent."
Obama listed the late singer's gifts, writing, "As one of the most gifted and prolific musicians of our time, Prince did it all. Funk. R&B. Rock and roll. He was a virtuoso instrumentalist, a brilliant bandleader and an electrifying performer. 'A strong spirit transcends rules,' Prince once said - and nobody's spirit was stronger, bolder or more creative. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his band and all who loved him."
Fellow singer Patti LaBelle said, "I am deeply saddened by Prince's untimely passing. Not only was he a dear friend to me, but an inspiration. His talent, artistry and influence are unparalleled and there will never be another like Prince! The world has suffered a great loss! May he rest in everlasting peace."
Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy, said in a statement, "Our Grammy family is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of seven-time Grammy Award winner Prince. Today, we remember and celebrate him as one of the most uniquely gifted artists of all time. Never one to conform, he redefined and forever changed our musical landscape. Prince was an original who influenced so many, and his legacy will live on forever. We have lost a true innovator and our sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends, collaborators, and all who have been impacted by his incredible work."
His sudden passing drew the attention from various celebrities including Demi Lovato, Oprah Winfrey, David Boreanaz, Blake Shelton, Justin Timberlake, Lindsay Lohan and more. They have been expressing their sadness via Twitter.
