Pop star Ke$ha could not compose herself when talking at an award dinner on Saturday, March 5. The "TiK ToK" hitmaker choked up when accepting the Visibility Award from the Human Rights Campaign Nashville, which recognized her stance against harassment of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender youth.

In her acceptance speech, Kesha related to her own personal experience which has been taking over the headlines in the past few weeks. She is in the middle of battling her longtime producer Dr. Luke whom she claimed sexually, emotionally and physically abused her for years.

"As many of you know I am going through some personal things that have been really intense and hard lately and I just want to say thank you for the support I have received," Kesha said. In addition to her fans, she has received supports from fellow celebrities such as Lady GaGa, Demi Lovato, Adele and Taylor Swift.

Kesha, who grew up in Nashville, said she felt connection to the LGBT community since she was a little girl. "I often felt like a misfit, so I often gravitated towards other social outsiders, many in the LGBT community, although I didn't know what LGBT meant. We just knew we got bullied for being ourselves, shamed for being different and encouraged to hide the things that made us unique," she read the prepared speech.

At one point, she started to tear up and stepped away from the mic. The audience cheered on her and she continued, "My message to you today is don't be afraid to speak up against any injustice you experience. Don't let people scare and shame you into changing the things about yourself that make you unique. Those are the qualities that will make your life magical and special. Never deny yourself that. We can't be afraid to fight for our own dignity. These are our basic human rights."
