NBC has given the greenlight to a long-gestating variety show hosted by Maya Rudolph and Martin Short, according to Variety. The project, which has been in the works for more than a year, is expected to air live from NBC's '30 Rock' headquarters in New York in late May.

The show, tentatively titled "Maya and Marty in Manhattan" is executive produced by Lome Michaels. Meanwhile, Matt Roberts, a "Late Show with David Letterman" alum, and Erin David are producing along with Maya and Marty.

According to the site, NBC confirmed the series order but details about the number of episodes and format are still being sorted out.

"Maya and Marty in Manhattan" is expected to be a contemporary spin on "The Carol Burnett Show", which blended musical numbers, comedy sketches and celebrity guests.

Maya previously hosted an hourlong NBC special "The Maya Rudolph Show", which served as a warm-up for a possible weekly series. The 43-year-old comedian is best known for her full-throated spoofs of musical figures, like Beyonce Knowles. She and Marty last performed together during "Saturday Night Live" 40th anniversary special in 2014.
