'[David's email] ended with this sentence: 'Thank you for our good times, brian. they will never rot'. And it was signed 'Dawn,' ' says his longtime collaborator Brian Eno.

AceShowbiz - David Bowie implicitly said goodbye to his close pal prior to his death on Sunday, January 10. His longtime collaborator, Brian Eno, had an email exchange with David just a week before his death in which the late musician used the word "Dawn" for his signature.

"David's death came as a complete surprise, as did nearly everything else about him. I feel a huge gap now," said Brian in a statement. "We knew each other for over 40 years ... Over the last few years - with him living in New York and me in London - our connection was by email. We signed off with invented names: some of his were mr showbiz, milton keynes, rhoda borrocks and the duke of ear."

"I received an email from him seven days ago. It was as funny as always, and as surreal, looping through word games and allusions and all the usual stuff we did," the 67-year-old British composer continued. "It ended with this sentence: 'Thank you for our good times, brian. they will never rot'. And it was signed 'Dawn'. I realize now he was saying goodbye."

Meanwhile, David's producer Tony Visconti wrote on Facebook on Monday, "His death was no different from his life - a work of Art. He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift. I knew for a year this was the way it would be. I wasn't, however, prepared for it. He was an extraordinary man, full of love and life. He will always be with us. For now, it is appropriate to cry."

In other news, David's fans gathered in London's Brixton neighborhood for a street party to honor the late rocker. "Bowie's time on this earth may be over, but he sure left us some great music. today is a day to gather together and celebrate," read the event's page on Facebook. The marquee at the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton neighborhood read, "David Bowie, Our Brixton Boy, RIP."

Many of them put flowers at a mural of David painted by Australian street artist James Cochran in London's Brixton district. Other fans who weren't in London paid tribute at the rocker's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

David's death came just two days after his 69th birthday and the release of his album "Blackstar". The sad news was announced on his Facebook page. "David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer," read the statement on his official Facebook page.
