One Direction returned to the U.K.'s "The X Factor" for its current season finale over the weekend. The four boys, who along with former bandmate Zayn Malik were once contestants of the singing competition, visited Wembley Arena in London for their last live performance before taking lengthy hiatus next year.

Clad in dapper suits, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne delivered an emotional and beautiful rendition of their latest single "Infinity" for viewers and the crowd that included their record label's boss Simon Cowell. They also performed another "Made in the A.M." track "History" while a number of old and new photos of them were displayed on the big screen at the venue.

The boys were hardly the only high-profile acts taking the stage during the show's Sunday, December 13 episode. Adele and Coldplay were other musicians making appearances during the finale to sing hits from their respective new albums.

Adele stunned fans not only with "Hello" from her chart-topping comeback effort "25", but also with her new shorter hairstyle. The 27-year-old songbird rocked shoulder-length bob as she played her first-ever performance on the show.

Coldplay, meanwhile, did "Adventure of a Lifetime" from their just-released "A Head Full of Dreams" LP.
