Leia Is No Longer a Princess in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'
Movie

According to director J.J. Abrams, in the upcoming installment of 'Star Wars' movie series, Laia Organa is no longer called 'Princess,' but she is reffered to as General.

AceShowbiz - "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is a month away from being released and details about the sci-fi movie keep coming out. In an interview with EW, director and co-writer J.J. Abrams revealed that one of the important characters in the movie, Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), was no longer called "Princess."

"She's referred to as General, But... there's a moment in the movie where a character sort of slips and calls her 'Princess,' " Abrams said. It's not revealed who slips up, but it may be a character played by a returning actor like Han Solo (Harrison Ford).

Abrams then continued explaining Leia's role in the film. "The stakes are pretty high in the story for her, so there's not much goofing around where Leia's concerned," Abrams pointed out. "But it felt historic to have her, especially with Harrison, back in scenes together. I can only imagine the baggage that they bring to it, I'm just a fan who loves this stuff, but they've been living with it - and living in it - since '77."

Based on what Abrams said, Leia's story would be a heavy one and when asked about how the General handle things when fans met her again, Fisher said, "Not easily." She also offered a few details about her character, describing Leia as "solitary. Under a lot of pressure." Fisher added, "Committed as ever to her cause, but I would imagine feeling somewhat defeated, tired, and pissed."

"The Force Awakens" also stars Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max Von Sydow. The seventh installment of the blockbuster franchise will arrive stateside on December 18.
