FJM a.k.a. J. Tillman channels Velvet Underground's Lou Reed for his take on Adam's 'Blank Space' and 'Welcome to New York' from his just-release '1989' covers album.

AceShowbiz - Father John Misty is the next musician to cover Taylor Swift's "1989". The folk singer, whose real name is J. Tillman, took to his SoundCloud on Monday, September 21 to share his versions of the pop diva's "Blank Space" and "Welcome to New York".

Tillman's covers are actually his reworks of Ryan Adams' take on Swift's hits. "My reinterpretation of the classic Ryan Adams album '1989'," he said when introducing his covers on Twitter, referring to Adam's own "1989" which also arrived on Monday.

The former Fleet Foxes drummer does his best Lou Reed impression on the songs. He also honored the late star by attaching a picture of Andy Warhol's banana from The Velvet Underground & Nico album cover.

Adam's "1989" was released exclusively on Apple Music. Later on Monday, he appeared on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show alongside Swift to discuss the project. The songbird, who has worked with Adams at his PAX-AM studio, said that she didn't see his "1989" as a covers album.

"They're not cover songs," she told Lowe. "They're reimaginings of my songs, and you can tell that he was in a different place emotionally than I was. There's this beautiful aching sadness and longing in this album that doesn't exist in the original."
