'I tried to give an opinion based on the facts that I knew, which were very slim,' Cantrell says of her deflategate answer during question and answer session of Miss America 2016.

AceShowbiz - The newly-crowned Miss America, Betty Cantrell, wasn't really confident about her deflategate answer during question and answer session of the competition. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Cantrell revealed she thought her answer that Tom Brady cheated would make her lose the competition.

During the Q&A session, judge Brett Eldredge asked, "New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was suspended for his part in the so-called 'deflategate' scandal, then reinstated by the courts. Legalities aside, did Tom Brady cheat?" Cantrell answered hesitantly, "I'm not sure, I think I'd have to be there to see the ball and feel it and make sure it was deflated or not deflated."

The student of Mercer University continued, "But if there was question there, then, yes, I think he cheated. If there was any question to be had, I think that he definitely cheated, and that he should have been suspended for that. That's not fair." She was then awarded the crown and a $50,000 scholarship at the end of the competition.

Cantrell later told the publication she wasn't sure how to answer the question as she didn't follow the news. "You know, I tried to give an opinion based on the facts that I knew, which were very slim, and I think that the verdict came out during the week of competition that the suspension was [lifted]... and that he was able to play again... so I had no idea," she said.

"We really don't have our phones that week so I didn't know that had happened and I just want to leave that question up to the sports fans," Cantrell added. "Hopefully, the Tom Brady fans will forgive me and be O.K. with me again so we'll see, but I think it is blowing over."
