Kid Rock was called for a jury duty in his hometown of suburban Detroit but was dismissed after less than five minutes. A clerk said the Oakland County Circuit Judge Martha Anderson agreed to let him go off duty but did not specify the reason.

The singer was among 160 potential jurors for a murder trial due to take place next week at Oakland County Circuit Court in Pontiac. On Thursday, September 17, he was juror number 335 sitting with 13 other potential jurors for a questioning to determine whether he could be fair and impartial for the trial.

According to Detroit Free Press, Rock read newspapers to pass the time while he waited and immediately charmed people crowding the courtroom. He said he had law enforcement friends around the country and would likely give police "the benefit of the doubt" in the murder trial.

Asked whether he had been victim of a crime, Rock said he had been the object of many lawsuits. "I don't know if you call that a crime, but it seems pretty criminal to me," the rocker said, inviting laughters. He also knew assistant prosecutor Jeff Hall who was handling the murder trial. Hall "successfully" prosecuted a man who ran through Rock's security gate and attempted to break into his home two years ago.

All things considered, Rock was dismissed at 2:30 P.M. and escorted out of the courtroom. Three defendants are standing trial and the case will require only three juries. Rock is not one of them.
