"Grey's Anatomy" promises something fresh in season 12. The first trailer released for the upcoming installment teases that "everything has changed" since fans last saw the beloved show and its characters, particularly after the death of McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey).

In one scene, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is seen yelling at Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) who is knocking down a wall in the former's house with a sledgehammer. Meanwhile, it looks cheerful at the hospital but things get intense when Maggie (Kelly McCreary) is punching a blonde woman.

Dishing on how this season will be different, Pompeo admits that last season was "pretty dark tonally," but "this year we're going to turn over the soil, and the show has a lighter look." She tells EW, "It's brighter. We're trying to go back a little bit more to the original 'Grey's' and have a little bit of a lighter tone this year."

On what the problem that will come with Meredith's new roommates, Amelia and Maggie, Pompeo shares, "There will be conflict, because it's a one-hour drama, and I'm sure there'll be drinking and conflict, and boys will come into it at some point with three girls in the house."

"Grey's" returns with the new season Thursday, September 24 at 8 P.M. ET on ABC.
