AceShowbiz - The highly anticipated Stephen Colbert's debut on "The Late Show" finally took place on Tuesday, September 8. The former Comedy Central host made internet buzzing with his return to television almost nine months since he signed off from "The Colbert Report". As if it wasn't exciting enough, he enlisted his former colleague Jon Stewart to make a cameo in the first episode.

Colbert sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" in a pre-taped bit. He performed the National Anthem with various people in different places throughout New York, including a baseball field. It was later revealed that Stewart was the umpire at the baseball game. "Play ball!" he shouted after he took his mask off.

In his monologue, Colbert couldn't help poking fun at Donald Trump and Ashley Madison. He said that for "The Late Show", he began his search for "the real Stephen Colbert," adding, "I just hope I don't find him on Ashley Madison."

Colbert welcomed George Clooney as his first guest. Noting that the actor was kind enough to come to the show though he has no new movie to promote, the funnyman wondered if it was to distract him "while Matt Damon steals all the gold from my vault." The Oscar-winning actor rocked a goatee that night, prompting Colbert to crack a joke, "Thank you for coming dressed up as your evil twin."

When they ran out of topics to talk about, Colbert suggested, "We can pretend that you have a movie. Let's say it's some sort of action thriller." The host came up with the title "Decision Strike", in which the "ER" alum plays "a tough no-nonsense secretary general of the U.N." Clooney added, "The whole world is on the brink of destruction, and my character is the only one who can stop it."

They also played some clips of the fake movie which featured Clooney in the middle of defusing a nuclear bomb, making love to a woman, and hanging from an airplane door, but they were all actually filmed in front of his dressing room.
