The stand-alone Star Wars movie formerly had Josh Trank attached at the helm may not come out until after the 2019 release of 'Star Wars Episode IX'.

AceShowbiz - The untitled stand-alone Star Wars film II was originally planned for 2018 but there have been chatters about delay after director Josh Trank left the project. Now Entertainment Weekly claims in one of its new "Star Wars" articles that the anthology movie will be postponed until 2020.

"It's still one of the stories that we absolutely want to tell," Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says. "There is a lot of innovative technology in and around what it is we're doing with that story, so for a lot of reasons, we were comfortable postponing that. But we're definitely still developing it." She adds, "We're trying to get to a point where we're never rushing for anything."

The movie is expected to focus on how a young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel. "He'll definitely be probably in the high teens, low 20s. We're not introducing you to a 10-year-old Han Solo," Kennedy teases how old the hero will be in the upcoming solo flick.

Before exploring the Han Solo origin story, Disney will continue the saga first with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" directed by J.J. Abrams. It will see the return of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia respectively. It will arrive on December 18 this year.

"Rogue One" that revolves around a band of resistance fighters trying to steal the plans to the Death Star will follow on December 16, 2016 with Gareth Edwards at the helm and Felicity Jones in the lead role. "Star Wars Episode VIII" directed by Rian Johnson will follow in 2017 and "Star Wars Episode IX" in 2019.
