The director blamed 20th Century Fox for the bad reviews, saying that his version would have been critically acclaimed if the studio didn't make changes.

AceShowbiz - After Josh Trank's "The Fantastic Four" received early negative reviews, the director took to Twitter to respond to the bad reviews. He posted a statement that was soon deleted which implied that he had a better version of the movie in the past and blamed 20th Century Fox for making changes to the film.

The director insisted that if the studio didn't make the changes, his own version of the movie would have been critically acclaimed. "A year ago I had a fantastic version of this. And it would've received great reviews. You'll probably never see it. It's really though," so read Trank's statement. The director seemingly wanted people to notice that the movie is more a product of the studio than him.

In working on the movie, the director seemed to have some arguments with the studio. A source close to the production reported that Trank was "erratic" and at times "very isolated." Things on set got so bad that producers Simon Kinberg and Hutch Parker had to step in to finish the film.

Another problem Trank had is that he was fired from the untitled stand-alone Star Wars Film II. Kinberg, who's producing that movie, forced him to leave the project because he considered Trank difficult to work with following the "Fantastic Four" issue.
