Kumail Nanjiani, a self-proclaimed superfan of "The X-Files", has landed a role on the FOX revival. The comedian revealed on his Twitter that he would appear in an episode written and directed by his "favorite writer" Darin Morgan. He gushed, "And this script is wonderful."
Nanjiani, who stars as a series regular on HBO's comedy "Silicon Valley", posted a picture with original cast members David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. "The lighting is weird because there is a UFO right above our heads," he captioned the photo, which featured him wearing an animal control officer jacket.
Nanjiani also said that he recorded Duchovny and Anderson reminiscing about their past when working on the original "X-Files" series and planned to release it on his podcast soon. He also said of the two main actors, "David & Gillian were truly kind, welcoming & hilarious. Great people."

Also being added to the cast of the limited series is Rhys Darby ("Flight of the Conchords"). Sharing his excitement to be part of the show, he tweeted, "On the X Files set with Kumail Nanjiani. Being on this show left us both a bit giddy."
"The X-Files" six-episode event series is set years after events on the original series. In addition to Duchovny and Anderson who reprise their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully respectively, the show features Joel McHale as Tad O'Malley, a conservative Internet news anchor who becomes an unlikely ally to Mulder, and Annet Mahendru who stars as Sveta, a possible alien abductee.
The miniseries will launch with a two-night premiere on Sunday, January 24 and Monday, January 25 on FOX.
