The singer of 'Lay Me Down' opened up about his long battle with weight issue, saying in an interview, 'If someone called me fat, that affects me way more than someone calling me a f****t.'

AceShowbiz - Sam Smith opened up about his longtime weight battle in an interview with Australia's "60 Minutes". On the show which aired on Sunday, April 19, the English singer admitted that being called fat was more hurtful than any anti-gay slurs.

"If someone called me fat, that affects me way more than someone calling me a f****t," so he said. "I think just because I've accepted that, if someone calls me a f****t, it's like, I am gay and I'm proud to be gay so there's no issues there. If something calls you fat, that's something I want to change."

The singer of "Lay Me Down" said that food was his strategy to cope with stress when he was a child. "Food has controlled me," Smith shared. "When I was at school and I wasn't having a great time or when music wasn't going very well, I would eat - eating made me feel better."

He further said that because of the emotional eating, he gained more weight since moving from his hometown to London to pursue a music career. "I genuinely think I gained about two stones [28 pounds] when I moved here," he explained. "Just get loads of chicken and watched 'Lost' every night after work."

However, these days, Smith looked better than before. Last week, he reveled his secret on his weight loss via Instagram. He proudly told her fans that he lost 14 pounds in just two weeks with the help of his nutritionist Amelia Freer.

"Three weeks ago I met a woman who has completely changed my life," he captioned the Instagram photo showing him holding a book by Freer. "Amelia Freer has helped me lose over a stone in 2 weeks and has completely transformed my relationship with food. Everyone go check out her incredible book, and start to live healthy. It's not even about weight loss it's about feeling happy in yourself. Love you Amelia & thank you for making me feel so happy inside and out @ameliafreer #eatnourishglow."
