The final season is split into two parts, each consisting of 7 episodes with the second half called "The End of an Era". AMC president Charlie Collier said, "It is impossible to overstate the impact it has had on AMC, and I would argue, this era of television."

"What an incredible journey this has been," executive producer Matthew Weiner stated. "I take great pride in what the entire Mad Men team was able to create episode after episode, season after season. We sincerely thank the fans for joining us on this ride and hope it has meant as much to them as it has to us."

AMC also announces an eight-part miniseries, "Making of the Mob: New York", which will explore the historical roots of the American Mafia. Each episode will be connected to iconic mobster films, including "The Godfather" and "Goodfellas". It is scheduled to air later this year.

Additionally, the network picks up the adaptation of John Le Carre's "The Night Manager" which will go into production this spring. Tom Hiddleston ("The Avengers") plays a former British soldier Jonathan Pine who goes undercover to take down dangerous arms dealer Richard Onslow Roper (Hugh Laurie).
