James Franco is tapped as a host for an upcoming special ahead of 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. The actor will channel his inner Dave Skylark, his talk show host character in comedy "The Interview", for the event. He will chat with Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea and Jason Derulo.

The 30-minute special dubbed "Dave Skylark's Very Special VMA Special" will air Sunday, August 17, while the VMAs will take place the following Sunday on August 24 with Taylor Swift, Beyonce Knowles, Ariana Grande, Minaj, Azalea, Maroon 5 and Usher among the lineup.

The action comedy is directed by "Neighbors" helmer Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen who also lands a role in the film. The flick comes under fire from North Korea due to its Kim Jong Un assassination plot. It is due to arrive in U.S. on December 25 this year.

The movie follows a talk show host (Franco) and his producer (Rogen) as they are sent to North Korea to interview the dictator. When they are recruited by CIA and get involved in a plot to assassinate the leader, the duo finds themselves in way over their heads.
