The salary negotiation between "Modern Family" cast and producers on Monday, July 23 has failed. The cast reportedly are asking more than double the offered salary should the hit comedy show reaches season 8 or 9.
According to THR's sources, the offer was $150,000 per episode plus a $50,000 per episode bonus for season 4; $200,000 per episode for season 5, $225,000 for season 6, and up to $325,000 for an anticipated season 9. Since no deal was reached, it puts the fourth season in question.
Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara, the five adult cast members of the show, reportedly were negotiating together. They allegedly made $65,000 an episode in the past third season. Meanwhile, Ed O'Neill has made a considerably bigger salary than them at $105,000 range per episode this past year.
The cast argued that the show has been a money machine for ABC and a launching pad for the network's other comedies. Kantar Media reported that "Modern Family" generated $164 million in advertising revenue for ABC in 2011. The stars believed that they should be paid decently if the show keeps doing well past the seventh season.
As the negotiations did not meet a favorable end, a table read scheduled for Tuesday at 11:30 A.M. has been canceled at the last minute.
