Katharine McPhee Eyeing Janis Joplin Musical Biopic
Movie

The former finalist of the hit singing competition American Idol confessed that she would love to portray the legendary rocker in a drama musical concentrating on her life and death.

AceShowbiz - Since finishing second to Taylor Hicks in the fifth season of singing competition American Idol, Katharine McPhee has toured with Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, released a self-titled debut album and nailed a part in an upcoming comedy movie "The House Bunny". So, what else she could ask for. Apparently, the 24-year-old still has one wish to be made into reality, starring in a Janis Joplin musical biopic.

Talking to MTV about her yet unfulfilled dream, the "Over It" singer confessed that if she gets the chance to portray a particular music legend in a musical movie, she would love to depict the musician that is considered to be one of rock's greatest artists. Though admitting that she doesn't have a rocker voice, the Los Angeles native believes that she is capable of rendering Joplin. "I don't know if I would be the best choice for Janis Joplin just because I don't think I really have that kind of a voice," McPhee confessed. "But I see myself as more of a serious, dramatic person."

Despite her enthusiasm in depicting Joplin, it seems that McPhee has to settle on the fact that it might take a while before a musical biopic about the rocker is coming into fruition. The latest project concerning Joplin's biopic project, "Gospel According to Janis", has been put on hold since early 2007. The production's delay on the Peter Newman Productions' drama musical was outed by its star Zooey Deschanel. "[The film's] on hold right now, so I don't know when we're going to start shooting. We were supposed to shoot in November, but it's one of these things [that] seems like it's been hard to get all the money and the rights in place," the actress said at the time.

Meanwhile, on McPhee's acting debut film "House Bunny", the comedy tidbit stars also Anna Faris, Colin Hanks, Emma Stone, Kat Dennings and Rumer Willis. It follows the story of Shelley Darlington, a Playboy bunny who got kicked out from the Playboy Mansion because of her carefree attitude. Having nowhere to go, Shelley finds herself among socially clueless and awkward Zeta Alpha Zeta's sorority girls who are about to lose their sorority house and desperately need her help to get a hold on the house. The Columbia Pictures' movie is set to arrive in theaters on August 22.
