Paul McCartney Applied to Have His Name Trademarked

Paul McCartney sought on Friday Oct 13, 2006 to cash in on his name by registering it as a trademark for use on everything from waistcoats to vegetarian food.

AceShowbiz - He has all; money, big lavish house, and bright singing career, but a trademark. And so Paul McCartney tries to get one.

The former Beatle thus on Friday Oct 13th through his company, MPL Communications Ltd., made the application to trademark his name for use on goods as wide-ranging as pantihose, waistcoats and vegetarian food to Britain's Trademark Registry.

A registration would give the musician exclusive rights to use "Paul McCartney" and help prevent others from using it. Additionally, the permission, if granted, would also give MPL the right to use the name for a line of clothing, including overalls, waistcoats, hosiery, dressing gowns, bath robes, sports clothing and swimwear.

A spokesman for McCartney said that request made on the application would also give the singer to lend his name to non-veggie items, such as meat, fish and poultry, a move that the rocker's spokesman called "purely defensive." "It would give him protection against his name being used on products he does not approve of," the representative explained.

After a three-month period during which objections can be lodged with the trademarks registry, a judge will decide whether the marks meet the legal criteria to be registered.
