Artist of the Week

Mitchell Tenpenny

Week 38 of 2022

Mitchell Tenpenny

Mitchell Tenpenny was back at the top of the Mediabase country radio singles chart. Three weeks after leading the list with his and Chris Young's collaboration "At the End of a Bar", the Riser House Records artist made his return with his own track, "Truth About You".

Released in July last year, the song stole the No. 1 spot by dethroning Justin Moore's "With a Woman You Love". His quick return to the chart made the 33-year-old crooner break the modern-era record for the shortest time between two separate chart-toppers.

"Truth About You" was also named as the Mediabase country panel's most played and heard song for the September 4-10 tracking period. Meanwhile, on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated September 17, the tune jumped high from No. 70 to No. 54.

"Truth About You" serves as the lead single from Mitchell's second studio album, "This Is the Heavy". Dropped on Friday, September 16, the project consists of other 19 songs.

The 20-track set was made during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. In an interview with Taste of Country, Mitchell revealed that he wrote nearly every day. "It's easy to write breakup songs when you're in love," he said, referring to fiancee Meghan Patrick.

"I don't always write what's happening right now," the "Drunk Me" crooner, who proposed to Meghan in November 2021, further elaborated. "I like to sometimes go back and think about other things, or sometimes I just make it up completely anyway."

Mitchell began a tour with Luke Bryan earlier this year. While he loves teaming up with the fellow country star, he told American Songwriter that he's "excited to get out on my own tour." He continued, "That's where the diehards come in. It's the coolest feeling in the world. It’s why you pick up a guitar."
