Emerging from the industrial landscape of Westfield, Massachusetts in 1999, Killswitch Engage would become one of the most definitive and influential forces in modern heavy music, later being dubbed the greatest metalcore band of all time by multiple publications. Founded by bassist Mike D'Antonio and guitarist Joel Stroetzel, the band solidified its initial lineup with vocalist Jesse Leach, guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, and drummer Tom Gomes, crafting a sound that masterfully blended melodic Swedish death metal with hardcore punk urgency and soaring, emotive vocals. Their self-titled debut album in 2000 and its acclaimed follow-up, 2002's "Alive or Just Breathing," established a powerful blueprint for the genre, but internal struggles led to Leach's departure shortly after the latter's release.

The band's trajectory shifted dramatically with the arrival of vocalist Howard Jones, whose formidable roar and soulful singing became a new signature. Their 2004 album, "The End of Heartache," propelled them to mainstream recognition, peaking at number 21 on the Billboard 200 and earning a gold certification. The title track received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance, cementing their status. This success was magnified by 2006's "As Daylight Dies," which achieved platinum status and spawned the platinum-selling anthem "My Curse." Despite this peak, Jones amicably departed the band in 2012, leading to a monumental full-circle moment: the return of founding vocalist Jesse Leach.

Reunited with Leach, Killswitch Engage experienced a profound creative resurgence. Their 2013 album "Disarm the Descent" debuted in the Billboard Top 10, and its single "In Due Time" earned the group their second Grammy nomination. This revitalized era continued with "Incarnate" (2016) and "Atonement" (2019), the latter featuring a historic guest appearance from Howard Jones on the song "The Signal Fire" and yielding the Grammy-nominated single "Unleashed." The band, completed by longtime drummer Justin Foley, maintains its position as a powerhouse live act and a respected elder statesman of heavy music. Their ninth studio album, "This Consequence," was released on February 21, 2025, proving their enduring relevance and unwavering commitment to their craft.
