Renowned for his versatility and charm, Kline has established himself as a prominent figure in both film and theater. His noteworthy accomplishments include an Academy Award, three Tony Awards, and multiple nominations for prestigious accolades such as the British Academy Film Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. In recognition of his significant contributions to the performing arts, Kline was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 2003.

Kline's journey in acting began on stage, where he made his debut in 1972 with The Acting Company.
