Guillermo del Toro Plans Five Seasons for 'The Strain'

"" is going to come to an end only after it hits season five. The revelation came after FX announced at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, California that the -starring vampire series was picked up for a third season.

Producer Carlton Cuse said as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, "From the very beginning, we had really talked about the first book being the first season, the second book being the next two seasons and the third book the last two seasons. We've stuck to that game plan."

More announcements regarding the upcoming TV season were made by FX during the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Beverly Hills, California. The network has picked up vampire series "" for a third season, gives "" companion series, "Better Things", a series order, and makes an adjustment for "".

"Guillermo [Del Toro] and Carlton [Cuse] have delivered two thrilling seasons of 'The Strain' that are captivating and visually arresting, doing justice to the original novel trilogy and meeting fans' high expectations in the process," said Eric Schrier, president of original programming at FX. Carlton Cuse Admits 'The Strain' Poster Is Too Graphic for Some

The creative team's attempt to get attention for "" was deemed too graphic when FX pulled the billboard off from circulations last month. The horror drama's showrunner Carlton Cuse finally admitted that it was indeed not for everyone.

The key poster depicts a close up look of a human eyeball with a worm coming out of it. It received complaints from LA residents and was quickly taken down with the plan to replace it. "It may have been too far out there for some people but I personally liked it," Cuse said in a conference call via Deadline. "I think that the ad was bold and imaginative and clearly not for everyone."


First Trailer for FX's 'The Strain' From Guillermo del Toro

FX has finally released the first trailer for its new series "" that shares actual footage from the show. While it doesn't give away many plot details, it does hint at a viral outbreak that begins when a plane lands at John F. Kennedy International Airport with its passengers mysteriously collapsing.

"They're all dead," says a man checking on the passengers before one passenger suddenly breathes again. "I've seen this disease before. All the passengers must be destroyed," David Bradley's Professor Abraham Setrakian says, stressing how serious the situation is.

FX has given a sneak peek at its upcoming series "" with a new teaser. Debuted during NFC Championship game on Sunday, January 19, the video sees a New York skyline being cast in darkness before it features a tagline, "He is here."

CBS recently also debuted two teasers for its new series "". One of them is boasting about the involvement of Academy Award winner as the lead actress and Steven Spielberg as an executive producer. The second video, meanwhile, offers definitions of the word "extant" itself.

FX takes on vampires with a new show from Guillermo del Toro. The network has ordered a 13-episode freshman season of vampire drama series "", which will be executive produced by the "" helmer, Chuck Hogan and Carlton Cuse.

The show is based on del Toro and Hogan's best-selling novels of the same name.
