ABC Renews 'General Hospital', Replaces 'Revolution' With 'GMA' Spin-Off
April 12, 2012 11:04:57"General Hospital" is staying on ABC at least until September 2013. After months of cancellation speculations, the Alphabet has decided to keep its only remaining soap opera, making sure the show will be on air to celebrate its 50th anniversary in April 2013.
"The Revolution", however, isn't that lucky since the network pulled the plug on the lifestyle series, which just premiered on January 16. The talk show, which was ordered as a replacement to canceled soap "One Life to Live", will air its last episode on Friday, July 6.

James Franco Returns to 'General Hospital' for 'Longterm' Story

The "Your Highness" actor will reprise his role as performance artist and serial killer Robert "Franco" Frank starting September 20, and this time it will not be a short one since his story arc is described as "longterm".
James' character, who has a crush on hit man Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), returns to the show right when Jason is set to tie the knot with Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco). While it is not clear whether Franco will crash the wedding, a rep for the shows tells TV Guide that it will be his "most twisted plan yet" with Maxie (Kirsten Storms), Carly (Laura Wright) and her baby Josslyn involved in it.

38th Daytime Emmys Nominees Announced, 'General Hospital' Leads
May 11, 2011 09:05:17The nominees of 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are freshly announced. "General Hospital" leads the overall nominations with 21 nods, followed by "The Young and the Restless" with 20 and "Sesame Street" with 16.
"GH" earns its nominations in the acting categories including for Laura Wright, Maurice Benard and Nancy Lee Grahn. Its domination however, cannot send ABC to number one in terms of network with the most nominations. The Alphabet is second to PBS which is backed up by "The Electric Company" and the animated "Curious George " apart from "Sesame".

James Franco's Return to 'General Hospital' Is in Time for Oscars
December 09, 2010 09:12:26Striking while the iron is hot, James Franco is to make a return to daytime soap "General Hospital" and reprise his role as the serial killer. The actor has twice appeared on the ABC show but he has agreed to do two more episodes which air just in time for his hosting stint at the Oscars.
For his critically-acclaimed performance in "127 Hours", Franco has been poised to take a nomination at the upcoming Academy Awards. He has been tapped to host the show with Anne Hathaway who is also a potential contender due to her role in "Love and Other Drugs". The "General Hospital" appearance would coincide this event, airing a day before and the day after the February 27 ceremony.

Nominees of Daytime Emmys Announced
May 13, 2010 01:05:19Long-running U.S. soap opera "General Hospital" is leading the charge for this year's Daytime Emmy Awards after landing a whopping 18 nominations. The series, which "Spider-Man star James Franco joined for a brief stint last year, will face off against "The Young and the Restless, which garnered a total of 16 nods, for Outstanding Drama Series.
Soap operas are poised to steal the show - following with 13 nominations each are "One Life to Live" and canceled drama "As the World Turns". "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "All My Children" also received 11 and 10 nominations, respectively, and "Days of Our Lives" earned nine.
