On the anniversary of her son Luke's birth, and Dr. Joel Goran's death, Dr. Alex Reid treats 12-year-old Taylor Finn (Jenessa Grant, "Reign") who is admitted to Hope Zion Hospital after a motocross accident, only to be diagnosed with Leukemia.
Alex must then convince Taylor's mother to put the past aside and track down her estranged junkie sister, Janice Fenn (Tara Spencer-Nairn), to help save Taylor's life.
After their romantic plans are pushed back for a heart transplant, Dr. Dawn Bell's new boyfriend Lane (Shaun Benson) insists on observing her work her magic in the O.R., but when his stomach can't take it, Dawn has to handle her embarrassed boyfriend's fragile ego.
Meanwhile, Dr. Charlie Harris must contend with the father of a recent suicide victim who refuses to believe she won't wake up, and the spirit of the victim who just wants to move on.
When the true nature of their relationship comes out, Charlie must walk a fine line to bring the victim's spirit to rest.
In the E.R., Dr. Dev Sekera and Dr. Cassie Williams have their hands full when Dr. Zach Miller is moved by the anniversary of Joel's death and declares that no one will die under his care.
