Kevin Carpenter has been traveling to exotic locations all over the world for the past three years. He came back in town recently and was found dead from what was made to look like a suicide in the bathtub of his hotel. Ian Weaver is photographer who recently proposed to his girlfriend, Robin Keaton. He's also the man who murdered Kevin Carpenter. The question is... Why?

Kevin's sister said he was happy and had news to share. His journals suggest he was showing some sort of remorse. Kevin was looking for Robin Keaton before he died. Ian had caught sight of him hanging around outside the house. He tracked him down to the hotel where he was staying.

Dave Chissolm is grandfather to Robin's son, Ben. He doesn't care for Ian. He doesn't believe Robin will ever love him like she loved her son. John Chissolm died after jumping off a bridge years ago in what was ruled a suicide. He was in some sort of accident with a car before his death. Angie believes she's dealing with two suicides that aren't really suicides.

Sergeant Mark Cross (Warren Christie) is a charismatic former undercover detective with a mysterious link to Angie's past. He's also Boyd's replacement as the new squad boss. Cross is the type of guy who has a very hands-on approach to the cases his detectives are investigating. Vega and Lucas don't seem to mind this as much as Angie does.

Ian Weaver claims he was on a photo shoot the night Kevin Carpenter. Angie realizes he faked his alibi. She also learns that there's a connection between Ian and Kevin. The two of them were together the night of the murder. Ian put a bunch of pills into Kevin's coffee to knock him out. He didn't want his old pal to confess to the hit-and-run incident that killed John Chissolm. The two men conspired to cover it up by making it look like a suicide. Case closed.
