In light of the upcoming Equalist revolution, Republic City Councilman Tarrlok composes a task force with the intention of fighting Amon. Korra initially declines Tarrlok's attempts at recruiting her, though he eventually manipulates her into joining the force for his own devious purposes. By causing the Avatar to become a public target of the Equalists, Tarrlok will create an even larger divide between benders and non-benders, thus gaining support for his revolution. The first task force raid against an Equalist training facility is successful and this leads Korra to publicly challenge Amon to a duel on Aang Memorial Island. Once there, however, Amon ambushes her, and while she is subdued, informs her that he will not take her bending away now because then she will become a martyr for all benders to rally up and fight. Instead, he says he plans to save her for last as he enacts his plan for the benders of the world. As Amon knocks her unconscious, Korra sees flaskback moments from when Aang was alive around the time the city was founded. Amon disappears, and Tenzin arrives to help Korra who is left sobbing in his arms fearful and traumatized. Meanwhile, Mako runs into Asami Sato and she invites him to dinner. Learning about the financial obstacle keeping the Fire Ferrets from entering into the Pro-Bending Championship, she introduces him to her father, Hiroshi Sato, who agrees to sponsor the Fire Ferrets and cover their ante. Afterwards, they are shown growing closer together romantically in a taxi ride in the park.
