Vanessa has been nominated for an award honoring the Volunteer Parent of the Year at Eve's school. The principal told her to prepare a few words. That means there's a good chance she's going to win. Vanessa is basking in the glory of her moment in the sun. Unfortunately, the moment ends abruptly when Mike announces that Peyton Manning stopped by Outdoor Man. Apparently, he was holding Ed like a football!

Vanessa feels like her parenting award may be in jeopardy when another woman gets her husband's landscaping company to donate sod for the baseball field. Mike helps even the playing field by getting Outdoor Man to put up a shiny new scoreboard. Everyone is talking about it. Vanessa thinks this will make it look like she's trying to buy the award.

Mandy lets her dad know that he sometimes has a tendency to steal the spotlight. Mike disagrees. He believes the spotlight just seems to find him. In other news, Eve worries about fitting in at high school before heading out to an orientation mixer. She looks so beautiful and mature in her new dress. Vanessa gives her daughter a little pep talk before sending her on her way.

When the emcee at the award/auction event falls ill, Vanessa asks Mike to pinch hit. The guests loves him. He totally works the crowd to get others to cough up some big bucks. Of course, he didn't intend for his wife to be one of his money targets. Vanessa unwittingly bids $2,500 for a quilt when she gets overexcited after learning she's the Parent of the Year.

Eve ends up having a great time at the orientation. This has Vanessa feeling sad even after her big win at the auction. She's upset because their last child is heading off to high school. She just needs to work through this. Mike will be right there beside her. He's not really sure what to do to comfort her, but at least he's there. Maybe he should tuck her in under a nice, new 25-hundred dollar quilt.

Ed wants to release an Outdoor Man action figure in the form of Mike. He strikes a deal with a company in China. Sadly, Ed isn't completely fluent in Mandarin. Instead of action figures, he accidentally ordered 5,000 bobbleheads. It gets worse when he sees they are all labeled "Backdoor Man" when you look at them from behind. Not good.
