A car manufacturer sponsors an essay contest where the winner gets to run the Arlen leg with the 2002 Olympic Torch. The running of the torch falls on the anniversary of the time Hank cost his high school football team the championship with a broken ankle. Dale secretly nominates Hank to run the leg, and Hank wins.
When Hank runs with the torch, the fans are cheering and Hank feels the glory he didn't get those years ago. But as he rounds a corner, Hank trips and the torch goes out, unbeknownst to the crowd. Hank thinks quickly and decides to use Dale's lighter to re-light the flame. Bobby is extremely disappointed in his dad's decision to compromise the integrity of the Olympics, but soon realizes that Dale lit his cigarette with the original torch light. He grabs Dale's cigarette and runs after Hank. He's able to reignite the flame and salvage the Olympics. Because of this, Hank gives him an honorary trophy to place on the trophy mantel next to his.
