Pierce is telling a terrible joke to the study group when Britta loses it. She is trying to quit smoking, which has put her on edge. Pierce suggests she try hypnotherapy, and lucky for her, he happens to be a talented hypnotherapist.

Troy shows the study group the Greendale A/V department's website where Abed has posted his student films that chronicle the lives of the group.

Annie and Dean Pelton ask Jeff to fill in on the debate team for their match against City College. Annie's partner dropped out and they need a replacement. Dean Pelton manages to bribe Jeff with a parking space to secure his participation.

Britta lies on a couch while Pierce tries to hypnotize her. She plays along, as clearly Pierce is not a hypnotherapist. But Britta figured it was better to spare his feelings and play along.

Britta tells Jeff about her session with Pierce and how he fell, but she was trying to be a good student and pretend to be hypnotized so she didn't help him. While Jeff and Britta chat, the study group waits for Abed to confront him about his student films.

Abed shows the group that he is a good study of character and personality, which allows him to create the films about situations that have yet to occur. He feels confident that he can put the "characters" into any situation and predict how they will act. He shows them a few more of his films to prove his point. Troy and Shirley are freaked out and think that Abed can predict the future.

Annie begins the debate against City College. Greendale Community College is to prove that people are inherently evil. City College has to prove that people are inherently good.

Jeff takes the microphone and gives a performance that does not wow the judges. After the first part of the debate -- Greendale: 8 points, City College: 50 points. The basketball team has reserved the gym, so the debate must be put on hold and continued at a later time.

Jeff and Annie are confronted in the gym hallway by the opposing debate team. Jeff gets fired up and agrees to prepare for the second round with Annie.

Shirley confronts Abed about his films after witnessing a moment between Britta and Troy that Abed had already produced in his film.

Annie and Jeff meet in the study group room to prepare for the debate. Shirley interrupts their session to warn them that Abed thinks they are going to kiss. After hearing that, both Annie and Jeff feel awkward and agree to study alone.

Pierce conducts another session with Britta to help her quit smoking. While she is pretending to be "hypnotized," Pierce hits on her. He knew she was faking being hypnotized so he hit on her to get her to respond.

Round 2 of the debate against City College is underway. Jeff offers a rebuttal to City College's argument. Jeff sets the tone for the remainder of the debate.

In a final attempt, Annie reaches in and kisses Jeff to prove the final point that man is evil, and wins the debate for Greendale.

Jeff and Annie attempt to share a congratulatory hug, but it becomes awkward and they part ways, both still contemplating the kiss.
