J.K. Simmons and 'Stranger Things' Star Added to 'SNL 1975' Star-Studded Cast

The 'Whiplash' actor and Joe Chrest are reportedly joining the ensemble of the film that depicts the making of the iconic sketch comedy show along with Billy Bryk, Taylor Gray and Mcabe Gregg.

AceShowbiz - "SNL 1975", a forthcoming film from Sony Pictures, has finalized its cast with the additions of Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons and "Stranger Things" star Joe Chrest. Also joining the ensemble are Billy Bryk, Taylor Gray and Mcabe Gregg.

The film depicts the making of the iconic sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live" on its premiere night in 1975. Simmons portrays legendary comedian Milton Berle, while Chrest plays Herb Sargent, co-creator of "Weekend Update". Gray and Gregg will embody writer-performers Al Franken and Tom Davis, respectively. Bryk's role is still undisclosed.

Gabriel Labelle, previously cast as Lorne Michaels, the "SNL" creator, leads the ensemble alongside Cooper Hoffman, Rachel Sennott, Ella Hunt, Lamorne Morris, Dylan O'Brien, Nicholas Braun, Finn Wolfhard and Kaia Gerber.

Directed by Jason Reitman, "SNL 1975" follows the young comedians, writers and crew who brought the live comedy sketch show to life. Set in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast, the film captures the real-time chaos and excitement behind the iconic words, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"

The original "Saturday Night Live" premiered on October 11, 1975, with George Carlin as host and musical guests Billy Preston and Janis Ian. The show's original cast included Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, Garrett Morris and Michael O'Donoghue.

Over its 50-year history, "SNL" has launched the careers of countless comedians, including Adam Sandler, John Belushi, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Jan Hooks, Bill Murray and Eddie Murphy. "SNL" 50th anniversary will be celebrated in 2025, coinciding with the expected release of the film.
