After wrapping up the trilogy fronted by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, 'Jurassic' franchise is now set to launch a new story taking place in the same universe.

AceShowbiz - Scarlett Johansson is set to join the cast of Universal's latest installment in the "Jurassic World" franchise, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.

Universal is swiftly developing the film, scheduled for release on July 2, 2025. Gareth Edwards ("Rogue One: A Star Wars Story") will helm the project, with a script from David Koepp, who penned the screenplay for the original "Jurassic Park" (1993).

Johansson's addition marks her return to the realm of blockbuster franchises. She gained widespread recognition as Black Widow in multiple Marvel Studios films, including the "The Avengers" series.

However, unlike many of her superhero counterparts, she has successfully diversified her career with acclaimed performances in films like "Marriage Story" and "Jojo Rabbit", earning two Oscar nominations. She also has voice roles in the upcoming "Transformers One" and an Apple feature co-starring Channing Tatum.

The new "Jurassic World" film continues the 30-year franchise that began with Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park." It includes sequels directed by Spielberg ("The Lost World"), Joe Johnston ("Jurassic Park III"), and Colin Trevorrow ("Jurassic World," "Fallen Kingdom," "Dominion").

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard led the most recent trilogy, which grossed billions of dollars worldwide.

Koepp's return to the franchise is notable, as he adapted the original "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World" screenplays from Michael Crichton's novels. While sources indicate the script is in a highly regarded state, the film's plot remains a closely guarded secret.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new "Jurassic World" will introduce a "new Jurassic era" with a fresh storyline. However, it remains to be seen how the film will address the criticisms that plagued "Dominion," which included complaints about excessive characters, action sequences, and a diminished focus on dinosaurs.

Frank Marshall, who produced the original "Jurassic Park" and the "Jurassic World" trilogy, will return to produce the new installment alongside Patrick Crowley. Steven Spielberg will serve as an executive producer under his Amblin Entertainment banner.
