AceShowbiz - Katy Perry has responded to Kelly Clarkson's cover of the former's song "Wide Awake". The "American Idol" judge took to her Instagram account to share a playful reaction to Kelly's take on her song.

Kelly performed her rendition of Katy's 2012 smash hit in an episode of "The Kelly Clarkson Show". For the stripped-down cover, Kelly sang while being accompanied by a pianist.

The former "American Idol" contestant earned love and praises from fans and fellow celebrities, including Kate, after the video was posted on Instagram. "Ok dang I can never sing that again," the "Dark Horse" hitmaker wrote in a comment.

Fellow "American Idol" alum Adam Lambert also showed support. He left multiple love emojis underneath the post.

Other fans also flooded the comments with praises. "After ever cover, I think of how worth it was being grounded for 3 months for skyrocketing my family's cellphone bill during American Idol," one person. A fan asked, "When are we gonna get all these covers on Spotify?"

"The best person to EVER come out of American Idol," another added. "Whoever said "once kelly covers your song, it's no longer your song. She makes it her own and you never get it back. She's that good. was right," someone noted. One other also asked Katy and Kelly to have a duet.

First released as part of "Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection", "Wide Awake" was inspired by major life changes. "It's kind of like the labyrinth of my life in the last two years," Katy told MTV at the time. "I just wanted to tell a story about myself kind of going through this journey, maybe sometimes trying to get out of the maze. There's good parts, there's bad parts, and the whole time there's the younger version of me leading me through."

This wasn't the first time Kate and Kelly showed each other love on social media. Back in 2020, Kelly congratulated Kate on the success of her song "Daisies" in 2020, noting that the mom of Daisy looked "BEAUTIFUL" in its music video. Kate replied at the time, "Thank you, friend."
