AceShowbiz - Christina Applegate became a star of her own at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards which was held on Monday, January 15 at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California. She made a surprise appearance as a presenter amid her battle with multiple sclerosis, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.
The 52-year-old was escorted onstage by host Anthony Anderson. She walked with the assistance of a cane while holding onto the actor's arm. She looked overwhelmed with emotion, burying her hand in Anthony's shoulder as the audience roared with applause.
During the emotional moment, she made the audience laugh with her joke about her MS battle. "Thank you so much. Oh my god, you're totally shaming me with disability by standing up. It's fine," she said, before adding, "Body not by Ozempic. Okay, let's go," prompting the crowd to erupt in laughter.
"Some of you may know me as Kelly Bundy from 'Married... with Children'," Christina said. As the audience continued to clap with each word she said, the actress jested, "We don't have to applaud every time I do something."
She continued, "... or Samantha from 'Samantha Who'? or Jen Harding from 'Dead to Me'. Very few of you probably know me from that debut - I'm going to cry, more than I've been crying. Baby Burt Grizzell on 'Days of Our Lives'. It was my breakout role."
"And for all these years, it's look at that. Been an honor to play funny, flawed, complex characters like the women nominated for supporting actress in a comedy series," she added, before presenting the award for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series to "The Bear" star Ayo Edebiri.
For the 2024 Emmys, Christina looked sophisticated in a burgundy velvet gown by Christian Siriano with peplum detail at the waist. Sharing a video of the "Up All Night" star in the dress, the designer gushed in the caption, "Oh Christina you are divine and I will dress you any day of the week! What a woman."
