According to Jaden Smith, his mom Jada Pinkett was the first person in their family to use psychedelic drugs before the other members 'found it in their own ways.'

AceShowbiz - Jada Pinkett Smith influenced her family to use psychedelic drugs. The actress, 51, who shares son Jaden Smith, 24, and daughter Willow Smith, 22, with husband Will Smith, 54, was said by her boy to have been using the substances before he and his siblings also took them up.

"I think it was my mom, actually, that was really the first one to make that step for the family. It was just her for a really, really long time and then eventually it just trickled and evolved and everybody found it in their own ways," rapper Jaden told the Psychedelic Science conference in Denver.

Jaden didn't specify which psychedelics he was referring to, but said they have helped him form stronger relationships with his sister and his half-brother in a "profound" way. He said, "Siblings can argue so much and fight so much, and lord knows me and my siblings have done so much of that in the past. But the level of love and empathy that I can feel for them inside of the (psychedelic) experiences and outside of the experiences has been something that's profound and beautiful."

Jaden's half-brother is Trey, 30, who Will had with his ex-wife Sheree Zampino, 55. He added about how drug use has helped them resolve differences, "It will actually help us to open up our minds to get out of the old ways of thinking that got us into lots of these arguments and open it up so that it just releases and makes room for you to work it out and massage it out until it's completely gone."

Popular psychedelics include psilocybin (mushrooms), ayahuasca, LSD and mescaline.

Jaden previously opened up about experimenting with magic mushrooms in 2022. He told Mr Porter, "I believe that mushrooms are going to help us expand consciousness. The collection is not just clothes to sell. It's loaded with spiritual experiences and mystical states. We're just making clothes that can go along with people's journeys."

Jada has battled drug and alcohol addiction, and said on her Facebook Watch show in 2021, "Drinking red wine for me was like drinking glasses of water. Because I'm used to that hard hit. I was drinking hard in high school, too, and when I got out here I was doing cocktails. So, ecstasy, alcohol, weed. Let me tell you, I was having myself a little ball."

She said she quit drink and drugs by going "cold turkey" and, months later, revealed she used psychedelics to "knock out" her depression. Jada added on "Red Table Talk", "It's not successful for everybody. I struggled with depression for so long. And the thing about the plant medicine is it helps you feel better but also solves the problems of how you got there in the first place."

Her husband Will did ayahuasca 14 times in Peru over a two-year period around 2011, telling David Letterman on "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" in 2022 that he saw visions of his family and career crumbling.

He added, "I realised that anything that happens in my life, I can handle it. I can handle any person I lose, I can handle anything that goes wrong in my life, I can handle anything in my marriage, I can handle anything that this life has to offer. That's part of the psychological training that happens in ayahuasca."
