To star Michael B. Jordan in a new role, the sequel to the 2007 post-apocalyptic movie will be set 'a few decades later than the first' and sticking closer to Richard Matheson's 1954 novella.

AceShowbiz - Will Smith's "I Am Legend" sequel is moving forward at Warner Bros. despite the backlash that Smith has received for his Oscars slap. The movie is one of the projects in development as part of the deal between Akiva Goldsman's Weed Road Pictures and WB.

Speaking to Deadline, Goldsman, who produced and wrote the script of the original film, has shared update on the sequel that will also star Michael B. Jordan in an undisclosed role. "This will start a few decades later than the first," he said. "I'm obsessed with 'The Last of Us', where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30-year lapse. You see how the earth reclaims the world, and there's something beautiful in the question of, as man steps away from being the primary tenant, what happens?"

"That will be especially visual in New York. I don't know if they'll climb up to the empire state building, but the possibilities are endless," he teased.

Goldsman also revealed that the sequel will explore the alternative ending as opposed to the released ending in the original film, and stick closer to Richard Matheson's 1954 novella. "We trace back to the original Matheson book, and the alternate ending as opposed to the released ending in the original film," he explained. "What Matheson was talking about was that man's time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end. That's a really interesting thing we're going to get to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text."

Another project that Goldsman is developing for WB is a "Constantine" sequel. Revealing that he's currently writing the script, he credited Keanu Reeves for making the movie happen. "We're doing it with J.J. Abrams, and Francis and Keanu and I have been pretty deep in the story breaking stage," he said. "This is a credit to Keanu, who endlessly has said, 'this is the character I want to return to.' Finally, he said it enough times that it stuck."

While he has not done with the script, Goldsman teased how he would explore the titular character's storyline in the upcoming movie, "The character is very much Keanu and the way he and Francis saw the world of good and evil, and the wonderful and authentic noir where there is a world behind the world of good and evil coexist with our world right up close. Beyond that, we are still discovering it as I am writing the script."

As both sequels are still in early development, no release dates are set just yet for the upcoming movies.
