Director Jon Watts Teases Inspirations for 'Spider-Man' Reboot
Movie

The 'Cop Car' director revealed some comic books which became the inspirations for his take on the upcoming reboot.

AceShowbiz - Jon Watts ("Cop Car") seems to be a perfect choice to direct the untitled new Spider-Man movie as he has a lot of inspirations and references to deliver the best take on the reboot. Speaking to Den of Geek, the director revealed some comic books which became his inspirations.

Watts was asked whether "Ultimate Spider-Man" series inspired his take on the movie. "Oh, I love that. 'Ultimate' is great. I love 'Ultimate'. We have the freedom to pull from anything, but I really like what [Brian Michael] Bendis did. A lot," the director opened up. "That felt like... that was Peter Parker back in high school. And, spending as much time with his high school problems as it did with his superhero problems, which I think is really a lot of fun."

Watts also revealed other comic books which he read. "There's also some really funny comics stuff, like, the Archies," he said. "I don't know if you've ever seen the 'Spider-Man Loves Mary-Jane' series, but they have this really great anime-style illustration, and it's all just about Peter Parker's relationships. It's like the soap opera of Peter Parker in high school. Those are really funny, too," Watts added.

In other news, the director hinted that Miles Morales, who was first introduced in "Ultimate Spider-Man" back in 2011, might appear in the upcoming reboot. When asked about the possibility, Watts said, "I can't talk about that, because, you know, that will reveal too much...We're still writing the story... We haven't finished all the way through the story yet, so who knows."

The upcoming Spidey reboot will feature the younger version of Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, with Marisa Tomei appearing as Aunt May. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal will produce the reboot which will center on Parker in his high school years when he has already been bitten by the radioactive spider. The superhero film is due to arrive Stateside on July 28, 2017.
