Valerie Harper 'Resting Comfortably' After Rushed to Hospital for Falling Ill Before Musical

The 'Mary Tyler Moore Show' actress 'will remain in the hospital for observation for the time being' after transported from the Ogunquit Playhouse to hospital by ambulance.

AceShowbiz - Valerie Harper was hospitalized after collapsing on Wednesday night, July 29. The 75-year-old actress was feeling unwell before taking the stage for the performance of her musical "Nice Work If You Can Get It" at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine.

According to Entertainment Tonight, the artistic director of the musical told audience that Harper was taken away by ambulance. "She wants all of you to know after some fluids and rest she hopes to be right back here on stage later this week," the director said.

A statement to explain her condition was then issued, "Valerie Harper was taken to a local hospital as a precaution before her July 29 evening performance of Nice Work If You Can Get It, at the Ogunquit Playhouse, after reporting that she was not feeling well."

"She is resting comfortably and will remain in the hospital for observation for the time being. .... The audiences and all of us here at the Playhouse are greatly enjoying our time with Valerie here in Ogunquit, and we are encouraged that she is feeling better."

Valerie Harper was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2013 after previously beating lung cancer. She competed on "Dancing with the Stars" in 2013. She is scheduled to perform through August 15 in the "Nice Work" play, appearing in the second act.
