AceShowbiz - The 87th Academy Awards is currently underway at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. J.K. Simmons has been announced as the first winner at the ceremony, taking home Best Supporting Award for his performance as a ruthless mentor in "Whiplash". The award marks his first Oscar trophy.

Taking the stage, Simmons thanked his family for the support and delivered a sweet message to the audience. "If you're lucky to have a parent or two alive on this planet, call them. Don't text. Don't email. Call them on the phone, tell them you love them and thank them and listen to them for as long as they want to talk to you. Thank you, thank you mom and dad!" he said.

Dakota Johnson then introduced Maroon 5's performance of "Lost Stars" from "Begin Again" and the show continued with the announcement for Best Costume Design. Milena Canonero of "The Grand Budapest Hotel" took home the trophy, while her colleagues Francis Hannon and Mark Coulier who also worked in the movie were awarded with an award in Make Up & Hairstyling.

The 2015 Academy Awards is still underway with many more awards to come. Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, the ceremony airs live on ABC.
