Stewart has become the first American actress ever who wins a Cesar award after she is honored with a best supporting actress trophy for 'Clouds of Sils Maria'.

AceShowbiz - Kristen Stewart has made history at the 2015 Cesar Awards. The actress has become the first American actress ever to win a trophy at the France's award-giving show after receiving best supporting actress gong for her performance in "Clouds of Sils Maria". Wearing a gorgeous strapless dress, Stewart came up onstage to receive the trophy.
Stewart is the first American actress in thirty years who was nominated, and subsequently won. Previously, Julia Migenes was nominated for her performance in "Carmen". The last American actor to win, meanwhile, is Adrien Brody for 2002's "The Pianist".
"Timbuktu" is a big winner at the Friday, February 20 show. The flick was awarded with best picture, best director for Abderrahmane Sissako and best original screenplay among others. Best actress trophy was handed to Adele Haenel ("Les Combattants"), while Pierre Niney ("Yves Saint Laurent") took home best actor gong. "Hippocrate" star Reda Kateb won best supporting actor.
The awards show was also attended by Sean Penn who received an Honorary Cesar from Marion Cotillard. In his speech, Penn called out Hollywood and praised French movie industry. "It's been kind of a refuge when things get too cynical in what we do," he said, as quoted by THR. "Artists are encouraging to each other to sustain a vivid industry, which we saw so briefly in American cinema."
"French cinema is unique for sustaining those emotions," he continued. "It's been a breath of fresh air, and that's the reason this means quite a lot to me."
