The 'Happy' hitmaker will serve as a creative director for the massive concert that will take place in major cities around the world this summer.

AceShowbiz - Pharrell Williams and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore are reviving Live Earth Concert this year. The festival will take place on June 18 in Paris, New York, Brazil, South Africa, China and Australia in an attempt to urge world leaders to adopt a new climate accord at UN climate change conference in Paris.

The concert is brought back eight years after the first one took place in 2007 where Williams also participated alongside Metallica, Kanye West, The Police, Beastie Boys, Foo Fighters, and Madonna. It was held in major cities like Washington D.C., Rio de Janeiro, Sydney, Tokyo, and Rome back then.

This year, Williams is enlisted as a creative director. More than 100 artists around the globe are expected to take part in the 24-hour event. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the co-founder Al Gore said the goal was to collect "a billion voices with one message, to demand climate action now."

No performers are announced, but Williams stressed, "Instead of just having people perform, we literally are going to have humanity harmonize all at once."

He also addressed the critics who said it was hypocritical for those musicians to urge people to cut carbon emissions when they fly around the world on tour. "You would have pundits and comedians who didn't understand global warming and we were often ridiculed. We wanted to do something very different this time," he said.
