The new installment of the crime anthology series will be 'more comedic' and set against the backdrop of Ronald Reagan's first campaign for President of the United States.

AceShowbiz - FX shared more details of "Fargo" season 2 at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour on Sunday, January 18. FX Networks CEO John Landgraf revealed that the next installment would feature Ronald Reagan as a character as the story is set against "the cultural transformation that was going on" in the late 1970s as well as Reagan's first campaign for President of the United States.

"He's a presidential candidate on his first campaign who makes a swing through Fargo," Landgraf further said after the panel. "Some of the characters have some interactions with him. And some of his movies are also a part of the show." He said that they would not use archival footage for the Reagan part, but the role has not been cast yet.

Landgraf also said that the second season would feature more humor. "It's a big sprawling, in some ways, more comedic, though at times, a very serious show," he said. He added that feminism would play a big role and there would be "some really significant female characters."

"Fargo" season 2 will feature Patrick Wilson as young Lou Solverson, the character portrayed by Keith Carradine in the first season. Ted Danson, Jean Smart, Nick Offerman, Jeffrey Donovan, Brad Garrett, Kieran Culkin and many others have been cast for the 10-episode second season, which will begin production on Monday and is expected to premiere in the fall.

Also at the panel, FX announced the premiere date for "Louie" season 5. The comedy series will return with eight new episodes starting on Thursday, April 9 at 10:30/9:30c.

The network gave Louis C.K. "as much flexibility as we can" to accommodate his busy schedule. "He's got a very dynamic professional and creative life now," Landgraf explained. "He wants to keep making the show, but he's trying to fit the intense process into all those other things."

Moreover, Pamela Adlon who portrays Louie's on-again/off-again girlfriend may get her own series. The network has ordered the pilot for new comedy "Better Things" written by Adlon and C.K. about a single mother/actress (Adlon) raising three daughters.

As for the recently canceled "The Bridge (2013)", Landgraf admitted that he had "a lot of regrets about not renewing that show," but the drama had a "relentlessly downward trajectory" in terms of ratings.
