The 'Tammy' actress will play the iconic fairy from Peter Pan stories in a movie to be directed by Shawn Levy.

AceShowbiz - Melissa McCarthy is tapped to star in a new "Tinker Bell" movie. The Oscar-nominated actress is attached to play the famous fairy originated from Peter Pan stories.

Shawn Levy ("Night at the Museum") will direct it for Fox, and "Neighbors" helmer Nicholas Stoller writes the script for the fresh take on the classic tale. The plot is still unknown, but it's envisioned as a comedy adventure.

McCarthy recently starred in "The Heat" with Sandra Bullock, "Tammy" with Susan Sarandon, and "St. Vincent" with Bill Murray. Her next projects include "Spy" and "B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations".

Meanwhile, Levy is gearing up to release "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb" on December 19 this year. He is also tapped to helm a new adaptation of the classic folktale "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves".
