'Parenthood' Picked Up for Final Season Despite Rift

'Parenthood' Picked Up for Final Season Despite Rift
The family drama returns to its Thursday night slot this fall amidst report that the cast should take a pay cut.

NBC has renewed "Parenthood" despite a rift between the network and the show's cast. The Peacock has picked up the family drama for a 13-episode sixth season that will end the long-running show once and for all.

The announcement was officially made on Sunday, May 11 during the network's revelation of its Fall TV schedule. "Parenthood" retains its Thursdays at 10 P.M. schedule, being led by "The Biggest Loser" and newbies Kate Walsh's legal comedy, "Bad Judge", and Cristin Milioti's romantic comedy, "A to Z".

THR reported a few days ago that most of its cast including Peter Krause, Lauren Graham, Monica Potter, Erika Christensen, and Dax Shepard, were being asked to take a pay cut. The network had struggled with its cost which reached $3.5 million a few years ago.

However, NBC boss Bob Greenblatt hinted at its renewal at the TV Critics Association press tour in January. "It's a show we love, it's doing really well, creatively, and we love Jason Katims," he said. "Everything's relative, but it's actually done better on Thursday at 10 than several things we've had there. I'm hopeful that we can get it to another season."
