On Monday, December 9, the Top 5 of "The Voice" season 5 were fighting for the three spots in the finals. Cee-Lo Green was out of the race while Adam Levine will at least secure one place in the finals with three singers remaining in his team.
The five finalists first teamed up for a cover of American Authors' "Best Day of My Life". James Wolpert of Team Adam then took the stage solo to sing "With or Without You" by U2. "Heck, you might have dug yourself out of a hole," Blake Shelton told the 22-year-old who was saved by the final Twitter vote last week.
Will Champlin of Team Adam delivered his version of Fun.'s "Carry On". He did not nail the high notes, but Cee-Lo said, "It is really cool to see you feeling all 'swaggy' up there." Adam was also happy with the performance because he had never seen Will smiling this much.
Christina Aguilera's remaining artist Jacquie Lee showed up next, singing Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" with a "power ballad" approach instead of the original soft approach. Her coach was apparently pleased with the execution as Christina gave her a standing ovation. Cee-Lo commented, "Just when I think that I'm jaded - I don't have anyone to cheer for or support, and this reminds me, this all belongs to me."
Blake took Cole Vosbury to a barbershop to prepare for the semifinals before he tackled Garth Brooks' song "Shameless". It was a good song choice because the mix of rock and country suited Cole. Blake commented, "I think you just now figured out who you are."
Last but not least, there was Tessanne Chin of Team Adam who sang "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon & Garfunkel. She tried to deliver the meaningful lyrics and left her coach speechless. He finally found the words to describe the performance, calling it the most "graceful and flawless performance" on the show.
On Tuesday night, two of these singers will be eliminated while the remaining three will move to the finals.
