The Purple One enlists dancer Danielle Curiel to star and direct the dance-filled video for his new single.
For fans who were expecting to see iconic musician Prince in a music video for his new single "Breakfast Can Wait", they might have to wait until his next release as The Purple One does not appear in the newly-released one. And unlike in the amusing artwork for the single that the Grammy Award-winner posted on his 3rd Eye Girl Twitter account last August, it also does not feature comedian Dave Chappelle as Prince.
Impersonating the 55-year-old singer/songwriter in the Danielle Curiel-directed video is Curiel herself, dressed in Prince's "Purple Rain" costume complete with a big wig and drew-on moustache and holding an electric guitar. And just like funnyman Chapelle in the single artwork, Curiel holds up, although not a plateful, but instead a piece of pancake in reference to the morning meal.
The storyline has a guy coming into a room to find his girl cooking up breakfast, but instead of eating, the couple ends up flirting, throwing food around and turning their kitchen into a mess. But the dining area disarray didn't happen until a long dance sequence ensues. The pair each has his and her own group of dancers backing them up for a choreography-heavy showdown.
Perhaps Prince was too busy working on his forthcoming new studio album tentatively titled as "Plectrum Electrum" to find time to film for the "Breakfast Can Wait" music video.
