A new featurette for "Beautiful Creatures" has been unleashed via MTV to give a better idea of what the story is about. The sneak peek features the cast and the crew explain who Lena is, her main issue with the coming of her 16th birthday, and her budding romance with a normal boy which complicates her life.

"They're supernaturals, they're not immortals. They're people who have powers beyond the finite abilities of most mortals," says director Richard LaGravenese of the casters, who include the major character Lena. Emmy Rossum, who plays Lena's dark caster cousin Ridley chimes in, "Casters are either dark or light."

"Some of her family is dark, some are light," the "Shameless" actress adds. "Lena is a natural, her powers are magnified. If she becomes a dark caster, she will become the most powerful dark caster in the world, and the same for the light."

Alice Englert, who portrays Lena, dishes on her character's upcoming transition. "Lena's 16th birthday falls on the most powerful solstice in 5,000 years, and more energy will be released than ever before and transferred to her. It's a big deal," she says.

Having been dubbed the next big thing after the "Twilight Saga" film series, "Beautiful Creatures" is adapted from a novel of the same name by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. It tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers: Ethan, a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena, a mysterious new girl. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town.

Alden Ehrenreich takes the role of Ethan, while Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis and Emma Thompson join the cast ensemble in supporting roles. In addition to serving as the director, LaGravenese writes the script for the romantic supernatural film, which is slated to hit U.S. theaters on February 13, 2013.
